Technical Sergeant Kellis Lamar Madison

Bronze Star Medal

Born on April 25, 1919, U.S. Army Tech Sgt. would be known of as a hero for his bravery during World War II. Joining the U.S. Army 9th Infantry, from Mississippi, Madison would find himself fighting on the French-German border. Armed with hand grenades and a rifle, TSgt. Madison led an assault on a German headquarters, destroying and wiping out the enemy troops. He was Killed in Action in the assault on November 12, 1944.

For his heroic and brave actions, TSgt. was awarded one of the highest medals the U.S. Army awards, the Bronze Star.

His mother, Mrs. Mary Madison, who lived at 1112 West Solomon Street, received the horrible news of her son’s death. He is buried in the Lorraine Cemetery, St. Avold, France.

Although TSgt. Madison did not come home alive, a thankful community now honors the World War II, hero. An individual plaque will be installed in Historic Downtown Griffin honoring our Hometown Hero. The plaque is sponsored by The Sock Shoppe.
