Saint Elmo Rickerson
Captain in U.S. Army
Saint Elmo Rickerson was a Captain in the Infantry in the U.S. Army. Not much is known about Captain Rickerson. We do know, however, that he was born on August 11, 1918 and enlisted in the Army on September 9, 1940. He was a part of the 409th Infantry Division.
Captain Rickerson was killed in action on December 2, 1944. His parents, father Saint Elmo Rickerson, Jr. and mother Mozelle Fannie Owens Rickerson, were notified of their son’s death. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville.
Although Captain Rickerson did not come home alive, a community now honors the World War II, soldier. An individual plaque will be installed in Historic Downtown Griffin. The plaque is proudly sponsored by the Spalding County Kiwanis Club.
