Killed in Car Accident

John Joseph Boggs is listed on the World War II monument in Veterans Park. However, not much is known about Boggs.

We have learned through research that John Joseph Boggs was born on December 8, 1918, in Griffin-Spalding County.

He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was killed in a horrific automobile accident on January 16, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia.

His parents were Collier and William Henry Boggs, Jr. His wife, Marjorie Chasteen (who died in 1988) and a son, John Joseph, Jr. (died in Waycross on February 19, 2017) survived him after the auto accident.

A plaque will honor John Joseph Boggs and will be installed in Griffin.
