Lewis N. Brown
Lived in Sunnyside
U.S. Army Private First Class Lewis N. Brown was born on April 28, 1926. He was only 18 years old when he reported to begin his service on August 23, 1944, at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He was assigned to the 36th – Armored Infantry Division. He had been overseas fighting in Germany for only two months when he was reported as Missing in Action. This was changed to Killed in Action on April 11, 1945. The parents of the nineteen-year-old, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Brown, of Sunnyside, received the horrible news of their son’s death.
Brown had two brothers, who were also serving in the military overseas. He is buried in the Roseland Park Cemetery located in East Point, Georgia.
Although PFC Brown did not come home alive, a thankful community now honors the World War 2, hero. An individual plaque will be installed in Historic Downtown Griffin. The plaque is sponsored by Southern Crescent Technical College.
