Marine Corporal Millard Harold Hunter was born in Griffin on January 24, 1927.Hunter, a highly decorated Marine, was killed in action on March 15, 1951during Operation Ripper in Korea. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin. Cpl. Hunter was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Korean War Service Medal for his valor and heroism.
Although Hunter did not come home alive, a grateful community now honors our Hometown Hero. An individual plaque will be installed in Historic Downtown Griffin. The plaque is proudly sponsored by Mary E. and Richard Collier.
