Thomas Eugene Wooten
Was a Farmer Along RFD B, Griffin
Thomas Eugene Wooten grew up on the farm. Born in Monticello, Georgia, on August 3, 1919, Wooten and his family moved to Griffin. They lived along North 9th Street, on what was then RFD B. He was a farmer for Mr. Winifred Hatchett before he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army on October 19, 1942.
Private Wooten’s mother, Lois Niblett Wooten received the dreaded telegram about her son’s death on July 9, 1944. He had been killed in action serving his country. Thomas Eugene Wooten is buried in the New Hope Cemetery in Monticello.
Although US Army Private Wooten did not come home alive, a thankful community now honors the World War II, soldier. An individual plaque will be installed in Historic Downtown Griffin honoring our Hometown Hero. The plaque is sponsored by Carole and John Carlisle.
