Aubrey C. Long

Medic Killed Saving Wounded Comrades

Born in Experiment on October 28, 1928, Aubrey C. Long became a medic in the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division of the United States Army. Rising to the rank of sergeant, Long was killed in action on May 14, 1952 in the Chorwon area of Korea. He was tending to his wounded comrades on the battlefield. His remains were never recovered.

For his bravery, Long was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Medical Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Korean War Service Medal.

Although Long did not come home alive, a grateful community now honors our Hometown Hero. An individual plaque will be installed in Historic Downtown Griffin in his honor. The plaque is proudly sponsored by Dan Duncan.
